Whitewater Rafting on the Elbow River
Alpine River Beauty and Whitewater Rafting Right Next to Calgary
The Elbow River takes its name from Elbow Lake, where it originates high in Western Canada’s Rocky Mountains. From there, it flows across Alberta until it eventually joins the Bow River in Calgary. An incredibly scenic river, it is popular with all manner of outdoor enthusiasts, especially canoeists, rafters, and hikers. Because of fluctuating water levels, rafters can only take to the Elbow River’s rapids in the spring, usually in May and June. But during this time, you can enjoy surfing and splashing the rapids amidst some of the most beautiful alpine scenery Alberta has to offer – just outside of the vibrant city of Calgary.
