ALBERTA, CANADA – Kicking Horse River, with its glacier-fed rapids, flow past the town of Field and shaped the valley since the Ice Age. The river runs westward toward the town of Golden and the Columbia River, where it increases its strength making it the perfect destination for world-class whitewater rafting in Canada. Travel only 30 minutes from Field on the Trans Canada Highway to access premier river rafting in the Canadian Rockies.
The Kicking Horse River has carved a mountainous canyon where it breaks wild from the Canadian Rockies to meet the Columbia River. During the summer months, the Kicking Horse River swells to offer an excellent river-rafting adventure. Family rafting trips are popular, as well as scenic floats down the river guided by professionals. The best part is the scenic beauty one can view on the rafting trips in this region of Canada. And it is a perfect chance to see Canada’s wildlife such as bald eagles, bears, and mountain goats.
For the adventurous, rafting on the Kicking Horse is about more than whitewater than scenic beauty. The Class II and III rapids turn into Class IV+ torrents. Rafters instead are focused on the gigantic standing waves. Four kilometers (2.5 miles) of Class IV+ action on the Kicking Horse River gives you plenty of time to get that adrenaline rush you crave.
Certified guiding companies offer whitewater rafting trips on the Kicking Horse River set up camp west of Yoho National Park. Some companies offer shuttle services between Field and the river camps. Rafting season begins in June and runs until late August, depending on river levels.
